From its initial construction in the Sui Dynasty to the prosperity of Lin'an City in the Southern Song Dynasty, and then to the rise of modern commercial complexes, Wulin has become a symbolic landmark in Hangzhou. However, with the rise of the Hubin and Qianjiang New City commercial districts, Wulin is no longer unique in Hangzhou. Nevertheless, during the National Day holiday, Hangzhou Guoda City Plaza, a project under the Zhejiang Provincial Transportation Group, celebrated the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China with a "Return to Wulin" art exhibition, successfully drawing the city's attention back to Wulin.
On October 1, 2024, the "Return to Wulin" themed exhibition opened at Hangzhou Guoda City Plaza. Divided into five chapters—"Departure," "Fireworks," "Starlight," "Modernity," and "Flow"—the exhibition corresponding to the five dimensions of landscape, society, art, commerce, and transportation, it used photography, digital art, music, and exhibition displays to recreate the historical, artistic, and modern commercial civilization of Wulin.
